Day 5 - Blythe, CA to Ehrenberg, AZ
Despite receiving only a couple of inches of rain a year, Blythe, like Brawley, El Centro and Calexico before it, has a thriving agricultural industry featuring a wide variety of crops, including cotton, hay, melons, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, onions and other vegetables. This is made possible by an extensive irrigation system that diverts water from the Colorado River. Locals tell me that in recent years foreign entities have been buying up farms not to raise crops, but to sell the attached water rights.
Crossed into AZ today! But not before visiting the Blythe Intaglios. Amazing! recreation.gov
