A Reversal in Fortune for Sierra Blanca?

As indicated in the photos below, Sierra Blanca, Texas has suffered through some pretty tough economic times of late. But In talking with Charles, the owner of the Sierra Blanca Historic Lodge, I learned that things may soon change dramatically in this tiny town.

Lithium and other “rare earth minerals” have recently been discovered in nearby Round Top Mountain. The U.S. government has cleared the way to facilitate mining operations there. These minerals, as I understand it, are essential to many new and emerging technologies.

Charles says it has been amusing to see potential investors from New York and elsewhere arrive in town wearing brand new Wrangler jeans, big belt buckles and 10 gallon hats. The local guise is so as not to create a stir for fear that competing investors will swoop in and usurp the opportunities here. Sometimes they forget to take off their Rolex and other expensive watches! :-)
