Day 22 - Clint, TX to Sierra Blanca, TX
West Texas is a vast and forbidding place! Rode 73 miles today through barren country on roads that were completely empty. For most of the ride I was within 10 miles of Interstate 10, which I found reassuring.
I had no human contact until I took refuge at the end of the day in the Sierra Blanca Historic Lodge, in talking with the owners I learned that Elvis slept here, many nights in fact. Apparently his car broke down here and he was stranded in room #2 for several days until friends were able to rescue him. Other well known past patrons of the Sierra Blanca Lodge were George Patton (back when he was a lieutenant and his father was living in the vicinity) and John Wayne.
I am just the latest of countless intrepid bicyclists who have exhaustively stumbled into the Sierra Blanca Historic Lodge.
