Day 23 - Sierra Blanca, TX to Van Horn, TX
Today was a short and rather nondescript day riding an old deserted highway that runs parallel to interstate 10. Would have liked to have gone a lot further but my adventure cycling map says that there are no resources for the 75 miles between a Van Horn and my next destination, Marfa, TX.
Adventure Cycling considers a water spigot to be a “resource” so I am taking heed and staying here. Gave me plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely dinner on a barstool at a local steakhouse between two engineers from Blue Origin, a private aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos.
These two gentlemen didn’t previously know each other and I soon found myself in the middle of a fascinating conversation about the current status of space travel. It seems we humans are launching rockets into space nearly every day right now! And meanwhile I am riding my bike and feeling like a dinosaur!
Tomorrow promises to be an interesting day even for earthbound bicyclists in West Texas. The forecast calls for temperatures topping out at 57 degrees with crosswinds gusting up to 21 mph. And no resources!
