Day 46 - DeRidder, LA to Villa Platte, LA
I had to ride a little faster today to out run all the dogs that chased me! Fortunately, all of these dogs seemed to be domesticated dogs and didn’t pose much of a threat to me.
I see a lot of roadkill and generally don’t pay much attention to it. But the large bobcat below got my attention!
I passed by the legendary Fred’s Lounge in Mamou, the unofficial Cajun music capital, only hours after the conclusion of its weekly Saturday morning dance party. Bad timing on my part!
I am now in the heart of crawfish country and found the many crawfish ponds that I passed and crawfish harvesting boats to be very interesting. I would love to have some crawfish etouffee here, but I’m fortunately I became allergic to crawfish 15 years ago. So I got stuck eating perhaps the best barbecue I have ever had! Pat and hi wife, pictured below, told me his secret was using pecan wood instead of charcoal.
