Day 47 - Villa Platte, LA to Bunkie, LA
Gorgeous ride today in perfect weather around Chicot State Park to the little town of Bunkie, LA.
Stopped for lunch and had an extended conversation with my delightfully chatty waitress, who took an interest in the bobcat roadkill I came across yesterday. Seems she has an interest in tanning hides of various wild animals, including fresh roadkill. In fact, she has two beavers and two otters in her freezer now, one of which she got recently picked up on the side of the road. Seems to me like an unusual hobby but, then again, no more unusual than riding a bicycle across the country.
I will be spending the night tonight at the Bunkie fire station. The firefighters in this town have a long tradition of allowing touring bicyclists to stay on their property and to use their showers and laundry facility. Since I’m not seeing any campgrounds or other accommodations for over 60 miles, I gladly accepted their gracious hospitality.
