Day 48 - Bunkie, LA to New Roads, LA
The only thing worse than a biting dog is a dog that wants to join you. I had such an encounter today with what I believe to have been a Doberman puppy. She playfully followed me for about 4 miles, actually running circles around me while I was going 11-12 mph. I stopped to play with her and felt myself becoming so attached that I quickly took her to a farm house and asked the owner if he could take her back home.
My bicycle wanderings have brought me back to a place I visited on my first long bicycle tour back in 2011, the Mississippi River Trail. To commemorate the occasion I had a nice exchange with a friend whom I met in New Roads on that tour.
I passed through the tiny town of Morganza, Louisiana today. Morganza was one of the many locations in which scenes from Peter Fonda’s classic film “Easy Rider” about motorcycle wanderings were shot. I am pretty sure that had that film been about bicycle wanderings it would not have been called “Easy” Rider!
Tomorrow I will be crossing the Mississippi River and heading southeast toward New Orleans, where I intend to spend this weekend eating well and listening to live music.
Cute puppy. This was luckily a good dog encounter.
