Day 50 - Baton Rouge, LA to LaPlace, LA

I met a cyclist who is heading west on the Southern Tier route this morning. He said he was grazed by a truck while riding in the Florida panhandle. Fortunately, he was not hurt badly. But it is a reminder of the need to be very careful out here.

He is the fourth cyclist I have met heading west on the southern tier. All have been very inquisitive about the portion of the route in West Texas.

I’m starting to pass some of the antebellum plantations in Louisiana, as this newly re-routed portion of the Southern Tier hugs the east bank of the Mississippi River.

I wound up tonight about 35 miles outside of New Orleans in a town called  LaPlace. It was hit hard by Hurricane Ida in 2021 and is still feeling the effects.

I’ve seen so many bad plaintiffs lawyer billboards on this journey that I have decided to start including a bad lawyer billboard of the day. There were many deserving winners today, but in the end I had to go with lawyer Don, who reminds us that car accidents are not bull.
